"if it ain't fixed... don't break it."
"Think For Yourself" is not just a catchy phrase.
It's the reason YOU are here... or, at least, it SHOULD be.
In my opinion, “art” should resonate and challenge the viewer to consider their OWN connection to what they are experiencing. That is the goal an artist should set for themselves. It’s not just about what the artist needs to say, but it should also be that the audience feels the need to respond to the work. I determine the level of “success” of any given piece with the level of connection I achieve with my audience... NOT by how finely it is executed...
It’s “broken” for a reason.
The value of my art isn’t determined by the proficiency of it’s execution or by the prolific quantity in which it’s produced. Instead, its worth is determined by the amount of energy the viewer is willing to expend while contemplating the allegorical and metaphorical messages contained within it. I would MUCH rather hear a viewer’s reaction to a piece, than to discuss MY intended meaning for its creation.
Having someone share their feelings after they’ve considered my work is WHY my art is shown. While creating a piece, I often consider what the viewer might think about it and I am almost ALWAYS amazed at how WRONG I can be! I love the way the human mind works. If my art can give a little jump start to an interesting thought, then I consider it to be successful.
So, Thanks for stopping by, and I hope something here turns into an interesting conversation!
